In my opinion, for many people undergrad time is a very crucial time in many fronts. This is the exact age where you form a career, identity, and your own self image. This period is so interesting because, it is a time period where you are susecpetible to influences, at the same time you have equally good common sense to not get inclufnced. Your frame of mind is not marred by a pessimistic thinking yet or the monotny of a corporate world. It is a time you make friends who wil have a lasting impact on your life due to various things they do.
The other day I was thinking, if I could relive my years in undergrad again, what would I do different. SO I decided to put together a list.
- I would change the way I dressed and looked. When I think of my dressing in Engg. days, I really feel bad. a formal pant with a full sleeves shirt untucked and chappals to college is not a very good picture, if you know what I mean.
- I would have developed some good relationships with the professors. At that time, this is conssidered something bad, but if we really think, when we want to go vist the college now, these relationships with professors are the ones that create a sense of belongingness.
- May be did something really worthwhile with whatever I was learning. Meaning really put in some efforts to "understand".
- Venture out more on public speaking area, more than I did. Considering that I was a consistent Elocution Competiiton winner during my school days, it still surprises me how scared I was during Engineering to talk on a stage.
- Learn a performing art. Well, I started this by learning the keyboard, but had to stop after 1 month because we couldn't afford to buy a keyboard at that time. But I feel I should have done something instead of quitting. ( I did learn on my own and now can play much better, but those days won;t come back again, will they)
- May be interact more with Girls. No explanation needed. :)
Bottom line is I would do few things that would make me an accomplisher than one of many who came and went and had a nice time. After a while, memories of how well we bunked the classes or how many movies we saw will be plasant, but not gratifying.
Anyways, that is my dominant thought of the day today.
