If you have ever played either gully cricket or cricket at your apartment or colony level, I am sure you must have noticed the following things:

1. There will always be atleast one guy who can't just wait to start batting. This guy grabs the bat, even before the toss, calls the toss even if he is not the captain, as if he knows for sure that the toss result will always be for his batting side.

2. There will always be some people who just can't stop arguing about anything. It can range from what is considered as a four to a bollower's action.

3. There will always be an umpire.. but nobody listens to him anyways.

4. Some times the wicket keeper himself is the umpire. And I do not really know how that works.

5. The space available for playing is not really an issue. Gully cricket can be played with any amount of space.

6. There always will be some people who come ALWAYS late for the match, and most of the times these are the people who keep the bat and ball in their custody, and moreover claim batting, immediately after coming.

7. The team that bats first will always be trying to find reaons to stop the match when the other team is batting.

8. If it is a bet match, the losing team never bothers to pay and in this kind of scenarios, somehow you end up in the winning team. But when you are in the losing team, for some reason you always end paying your share.

9. Hindi is the most common language used when playing this kind of cricket, and there will always be some people who do not grasp this vital point, and there by lose all arguments.

10. A cricket match without arguments is non-existent.

11. The ball will ALWAYS go to the exact place where you do not want to go. For example, if you say nobody should hit above a wall, it is GUARANTEED that the ball will go above that wall. And in most cases, there will be ONE designated guy, who is the rescue plan, who will bring the ball from ANYWHERE.

12. Only the guy most interested in palying will buy the balls, ALWAYS! he should be glad that rest of the people have agreed to play with him.

13. If you do not make your mark in the first 2 matches as a good bowler or a batsman, you will forever be fielding in all subsequent matches.

14. People with spectacles are automatically discrimanted against being a good batsman or bowler, unless they are persisent enough to show that they can do better.

15. If you have experience playing with glazed ball, you are automatically qualified for all bet matches, even though it was only ONE match where all you did was fielding.

I know there might be lot of other things.. feel free to add them in comments section.

Its been quite a few days since I posted anything. Last some days have been quite frustrating as last some months. Things just seem to get worse and worse everyday, inspite of my best efforts and best intentions. Somebody said that people are the most difficult things to understand, and I can really feel that in the last few days. One thing I have realized is that some times even your good will to help other people doesn't necessarily guarantee the same kind of response.

Life is being just a roller coaster ride now with each day throwing its own curve ball. I feel helpless, not being able to discipline my own emotions. I need to get some things atleast under my control and slowly turn the tide towards good. When you think in the nig scheme of things, how silly all other things look?

This might be the most vague and stupid blog I have posted, but that only shows my state of mind at present, doesn't it?

I have been reading this book called "Slight Edge" in the last few days. It is really a good book. I have read several books in the last couple of years, but this one really stands out. The basic concept is that life is not all about "knock-out" games, it is series of several good games.
Make sure you read it if you get a chance. Will certainly make an impact.

I heard a lot about the book, "The Alchemist" by Paul Coehelo. Need to get my hands on that. Anybody read that yet?

BTW, did anybody notice Nike's new slogan? I saw it when I was in India this July. They say "impossible is nothing!".... cool.. isn't it?

On a side note, ppl ( those few who still have the patience to read my blog everyday), I would really appreciate if you can post your comments on my blogs, will really tell me what you feel about my posts. Not that I am going to change anything, but I am just giving you an opportunity to voice your opinions :)

Just in case you do not know, there is small link called "comments" under each post. You can put in your comments using that.

I did not have anything really worth while posting over the last few days. Today, I just wanted to share some world music that I have listened to in the recent past and liked it very much. Here are some links where you can listen to the music.

1. Kothbiro by ayub ogada.

A very soul stirring and relaxing music. You can listen to this song at link given below. The best environment to listen to this is on your disc-man on your balcony in Hyderabad on a foldable bed (madatha mancham), on a summer night, around 1:00 a.m., with a cool breeze blowing around, with everything around you quiet and you looking at those zillions of stars on a black sky and enjoying the resplendent beauty of moonlight of a full moon (like today).

2. Smooth Operator by Sade

This is a little fast paced song by Sade. The following link is actually a video which really doesn;t impress. Just minimize the window and listen to the song. This is a good one to listen to in late evening or early night... around the time of our Cibaca Geetmala.

3. Times a wastin by from "walk the line"

This is country music.. good for afternoons in my opinion. There is a lot of good country music out there and I have started liking it after I listened to it in the movie "walk the line". This is one of those I have liked. Country music really makes you wanna learn Guitar!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezmZ3hWG3ro

Let me know how you guys feel about this music.

Has anybody ever wondered about things like these?

1. In the stories where a genie appears and gives ONLY three wishes, why don't they ask for 100 more wishes as the first wish?

2. When you are eating something and you choke and start coughing, they say that somebody is thinking about you. Now, if you think about them the same time, will they start choking too? then with every person thinking of somebody else, won't the world be full of people coughing and thinking and then thinking and couging and coughing some more and........

3. They say it is bad if a black cat crosses your path. Now if the cat faces something bad that day, will it think about you the same way?

4. What is logic in selling bananas per dozen and apple per kilograms?

5. Why do autos in india have all these weird writings and paintings on the back side? What are they tryting to communicate to us? Is is some code we need to crack?

Any answers?

Friendship and Simple Things in Life!!

For some reason today, I happened to remember a book I read ( and re-read)...it is "Vennello Aadapilla", by Yandamuri Veerendranath. I must have read that book almost a 100 times now, but even today, the ending of that book brings a tear to my eye. If you have not read that book, it is a must read! ( in my opinion). Another book that is equally good by the same author is "Anando Brahma". Both these books have some thing in them that make us to want to read them again and again.

I think the common element between both is the beautiful description of all those simple things in life that make you really feel happy.. For example, in a letter that Ramya writes to Revanth in "vennello aadapilla", she talks about getting up early moring before sun rise in that winter chill! or waking up late in the night watching the "mallelu" fall in the moon light.....Similarly, in Anando Brahma, the author brings out the beauty of Godavari, and the small village situated on its coast, then couples it with the sanctity of vedas. The story is more than that though!

I think I like these books because Veerendranath through the letters of Ramya or the descrption of Somayaji's child hood, emphasizes the small serendipities of life... and shows us things which do not need to be a big deal for us to celebrate life... And Veerendranath has written many other brilliant novels, but its amazing how much these two books based on the very simple themes stand out among the rest..

And finally, I remember getting the following a long time back through one of those forwarded e-mails :)... bet you cannot stop a smile appearing on your face!!!!
